The bench hearing the petition by Dr Budhi Prakash Sharma in the Supreme Court of India directed that the seats for the post-graduate diploma courses, have to be 50 per cent of the total seats. It directed the Ministry of health to hold counselling for the admission to post- graduate courses in medical as per the original schedule from March 3, 2005. The supreme court asked the Chief Secretaries of all the states to provide required information on the availability of the number of seats in the All India quota latest by 5 pm on March 1, 2005.
Earlier this information was to be submitted before 25 February, 2005. The court also directed the Health Secretary to file an affidavit citing reasons and identifying the parties responsible for the confusion, which resulted in filing of this litigation by a group of doctors who have appeared in the examination.
