United Arab Emirates

I came to this forum to find some information about UAE jobs but I guess I need to brief everyone about whats happening.

I have passed MOH and been able to find an employer to work as a General Practitioner. But dont get excited this is all you can get here. For all of you who are freshers willing to come to UAE for MRCS /MRCP FORGET IT GUYS. All the Goverment and Big Private Hospitals employ the doctors from Europe and USA and the jobs are not even posted in UAE .I was able to find jobs for major govrement hospitals on Canadian website and few other European sites and they are still there but asians are not invited unless they have Foreign Post Graduations Check out the website for IHR Canada. The calibre of the doctors employed in such hospitals is so high that one can easily say the most elite of foreign specialists are currently working in UAE big hospitals. Check out the profiles of these doctors for example in emirates hospital website.

So far i have not seen any advertisements for training posts , they may be there but are not advertised as such. Without house job I believe one cannot even sit for MOH exam. I think a person can come and appear for MRCS /P exams and then return to your own country for training.

Now i have 5 years experience as a GP and hence after my MOH am evaluated as a Full GP. On the other hand if you have 2 years experience you will be evaluated as Start GP. I was offered almost 15 jobs BUT they were all in small clinics and all employers offered me 5000 AE Dirhams for my experience,on the other hand if you are a start GP the pay will be more less. In UAE a reasonable accomodation will cost you around 2000 AED any where if you go for a shared accomodation this can go down to 1000 AED or even less . But it is upto you to decide if you want to go for this life style I being a married man cannot go for shared one. I will live with my family and so will save some money. Now the school fee of a child is from 500-1000 AED. Keep all this in mind. I guess a GP like me after 5 years will probably be married and a young bachelor can have some savings but no progress being towards his career would be made, because one can pass Royal College exams while here but how will you complete your training for Part 2 and thereon.

The doctors holding Diplomas and Post Graduations have better chances in terms of job and pay prospects because they are offered more pay.

Try to learn Arabic Language because the staff can barely speak and understand English and it is utterly frustrating to communicate with them. Infact few of them can be quite rude at times. Some of the doctors well settled here in UAE are the ones that came here 5-6 years back now things are getting quite different here. No discouragement but I have even heard of doctors attempting MOH for 15 times. As far as preparation I had studied for PLAB 1 and that has helped me pass MOH it is quite difficult prepare it like PLAB from Oxford Handbooks.

Now all this is my personal point of view and my experiences.Things could be different and I invite others to correct me if I am wrong. If there is some out there who can prove me wrong PLEASE BE MY GUEST and inform me about good prospects of being in this country otherwise things dont appear bright to me here.
