Russia

The hurdles and difficulties faced by me as a
foreigner in a xenophobic country made me to write this article, for it could
cast light on this matter, atleast to some extent, for many of the aspirants in
India who wish to do their PG in Russia.
Getting insulted by a Russian on the streets is a daily basis thing. I relived
those days when I read the news some time back in the following links in the
BBC. It is nothing less than what I had experienced.

From the BBC News:

1.Racism on the rise in Russia "Hell no,
hell no. If somebody now asked me my experience about Russia, I can't advise
none of my relatives to come, because you might die here anytime."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/2131214.stm

2.Moscow race hate runs deep Interior
Ministry spokesman Sergei Smirnov says "Of course, most of the people we (the
police) check are dark-skinned, but it's simply a way of preventing crime.
There's nothing racist in it."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/1941045.stm

3.E-mail threat to foreigners in Russia
The message, sent to the embassies of Japan and to a number of other Asian and
African countries, warns foreigners to leave Russia and says that members of the
group will kill all foreigners they come across in the days leading up to Adolf
Hitler's birthday on 20 April.

4.Moscow race hate 'on the rise' "When I
fell down, they came and started kicking my head, body.”

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/1524720.stm

5.Moscow 'skinheads' kill Afghan Other
Afghans in the Russian capital are concerned that brutal beatings are becoming
routine, the BBC's Sarah Rainsford in Moscow reports

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/3587319.stm

6.Girl killed by Russia 'racists' There
have been several racist attacks in Moscow and other large Russian cities in the
past, targeting foreign students, diplomats or immigrants from former Soviet
Republics.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/3476083.stm

7.Skinheads on trial for 'racist' murders
Twelve Russian skinheads have gone on trial in the southern city of Rostov
accused of beating three people to death in unprovoked racist attacks.
