for textbook davidson.
Mathews is good for last time quick revision

If only one book to be read, it is Kundu's Bedside clinics in medicine, both the volumes.

Dont read many many books. Time is short.
For theory only Davidson (Kumar & Clark is also very helpful), and for clinics/practical only and only Kundu.

the clicinal instruments section is very good and unparallel.
Algappan is good book
i read them both.

This thread started more than 3 years ago & is still viable. I think the confusion still persists.
Read only Kundu's bedside medicine. The new 7th edition is awesome which will help everyone to cross the hurdles.
If anyone is aggressive in reading, please read Hutchison's book. Wonderful book.

Kundu for sure. It gives confidence that 'I can do'.
Part 1 -- 7th edition, & part 2 -- 6th edition (just out in the market) are essential books with Davidson / Kumar & Clark for UGs.
Read general survey & all cases from Part 1.
Procedures, x-ray, ecg & emergency medicine from Part 2.

Start with allgappan..and if you really feel like touching pj mehtaa do it in the end.. just to brush up few things ..

SN CHUGH is BEST among Indian authors. Hari's Essentials of Clinical Medicine by Dr BABURAJ is less known, those who've read will have an added advantage of better concepts during Practical Exams and even after passing MBBS.

I have read all the books you guys have been talking about. Hutchinson is just a flashy name that was once a great clinical manual. Now it more like a management catalogue with more impetus to investigations rather than clinical skills. I really don't think its the book for 2nd or third year med students who barely have an understanding of pathology while starting clinics.
Mc Leods is a way better clinical medicine text of international repute as compared to Hutchinson's. Alagappan has become a textbook for medicine more than a clinical manual. My absolute go to books for clinical medicine are
1. Hari's Essentials Of Clinical Medicine
2. Symptom Analysis For Medical Students by Rema Pai
Its written in a way a lecture notes would be given out and the content is good and pretty much the way it would be asked in examinations. I don't know if any of u have even heard about these. But i'd stand behind them. I am a lecturer in a Govt. Medical College in Kerala and have taught 5 batches of students. U need simpler books not complex ones that mix up and confuse clinics than what it already is.

Agree: Hutchison & Mcleod are very good book but really clumsy & non-understandable in many of the places
: 100% truth that Alagappan is basically a theory book, not clinical
Disagree: Hari's book is very complicated one for UGs....u are right it is for teachers who wants made easy books for survival
: Rima Pai can not be the ultimate answer; there are lots of similar books in market
I think, other book names coming in the thread by different members are not imaginary !!!!!
All are my personal opinion for students, and not a personal attack on anyone.
