Well, its very tough, thats 4 sure. even if one gets an ortho residency, its even tougher to get a good program. The things u can do to increase ur chances:
1. Best scores possible
2. At least sum publications under ur belt
3. Get sum observerships in US before u apply for Match
4. Somehow get Research Assistanship in US for a year or so while u clear MLE cos US research counts much much more than Indian research.
5. Contact: Work always

its an interesting thread. Most of the aspirants always search for the salaries in different specialities, I also did and found the same results. But dude this is average salary. What you can make can be very different. I am doing my summer internship at an organization that provides management support to physicians and medical groups. From what I got to see, they make an obscene amount of money. Just yesterday I got to see the financials of a gastroenterologist and neurologist making more than 700k before taxes and other expenses, and more than 250k for an internist.
The gist of it is that the money you make depends on ur speciality, place where u work, for whom you work and offcourse you. The findings ARE highly skewed.

Usually application process for fellowship starts during 2nd year of residency. Based on ur CV, university, branch etc u get ur fellowship.
U r interviewed in d same manner as for residency. Some fellowships participate in a Match program similar to the one used to find our residency.

Hi <-snip->, normally answers to ur queries are posted in d same thread which contains ur question.
Whenever someone posts in d thread u visited/posted u receive n notification e-mail from rxpg which also contains d link to that thread. In case u r not receiving such mails, go to edit profile option at the top of RxPG page. Scroll down to find an option "Always notify me of replies:". Select "YES" against it and click submit.
Best is, first go across all d hot threads of d forum and u'll find that most of ur queries have already been extensively discussed n answered.
While posting new queries, Try to post ur queries in the relevant forums and not randomly in any thread. This will increase d no of useful responses. N have some patience, at times members who visited ur thread might not know d answer, so wait until someone who does comes across it.

average salaries just after PG for psychiatrists are around $1,50,000, but actual earnings vary a lot. Specially for psychiatrists private practice is more rewarding than other branches which doesn't show up in these stats.

They are equivalent to PGY4 n onwards. In the tune of $46k to $60 k per annum.

respected moderators , i m just asking one question like in res or pg the salary is 3500$to may be 4500$ but how is it possible to earn 100000$ what is the difference kindly mention one salary what is it ?what is basic and gross salaries but i would like to know one salary it is a minimum salary after bonuses or whatever it is only a question AshB kindly reply if you want takecare bye

Whoever said residents earn 10k pm!!! Resident's salaries have no bonus etc. They're plain consolidated salaries.. This range of salaries start after we complete our residency and take up consultant positions in hospitals.

can anyone tell me if cardiology is offerred as a residency or as a fellowship...?
can one do a residency in pediatrics and then do a fellowship in neurology or cardiology, in case these are offerredas fellowships and not as residencies...?
and dr kunal, could you provide more info abt the pediatrics fellowships...? is there no real chance of staying on there for a job after the residency because of the Visa problems...? could you give me your mail id, or the ids of the friends who told it was so, so i can discuss this issue with them...?

What Are Salaries of Doctors in USA
from what i read in the <july 06>BMJ-british medical journal..specialists in the US can earn upto 150000 pounds yearly i.e. to say $300000 yearly..while primary health care docs upto 85000 pounds yearly on an avg in either case.

I think all this is enough money so as not to discuss this issue further.
Enough money for a family(with child).
I have my brother doing PhD there and his wife doing MS. their combined income before taxes is 3200$ and they are having fun with that. Visit India yearly, have all comforts.
Doesn't this say it all.

Cardiology is a fellowship---to be done after completion of Residency in either IM or FP. Peds would lead to a Pedi Cardiology /Pedi Neuro and so on. Adult Cardiologists, GI etc make more $ than the corresponding Pedi ones, primarily because they are more proceedure oriented. As you can imagine, there is more competition for "Adult' Fship positions.
Pedi F'ships --Neuro/GI/HemOnc/Pulmo/Neonatology/Endo /
Allergy and Immunology.
$ are before tax--usually about 38% after 120K or so.
This is just off hand--do your own due diligence!

Hi dr lucky. Dermat is one of the toughest branches to get in US. Paeds is relatively easier to get. Can't comment about the scope back in India but certainly not too bad.
According to me the approximate order of branches in decreasing order of competitiveness are:
Radiation Oncology/Dermat
Radiology/Ortho/ENT/Ophthal
Gen Surgery
Anesthesia
Gyne-Obs
Internal Medicine
Pediatrics
Psychiatry
Family Practice
Please remember that this is to give a vague idea and might vary many times. For example, Psychiatry in Harvard will still be difficult than Surgery in a small community hospital.
