Author: rockstardelhi, Posted: Post subject: WHY are you preparing for impossible USMLE ?
not one, but many articles i have read backing the fact that there won't be good chances to get residency from 2015 unless you are very high scorer, research done, LORs in your transcripts, work experience etc etc.
its hugely tougher this time when its known that large number of US medical students graduating by 2015 and cost cutting in healthcare budget by US govt. very few residency slots for IMG this time .
do u feel u can get it ?

Well all they have to do is to Google "no IMG from 2015 USMLE residency"
Are you people ignoring the facts or you have some secret way into residency?
According to me it's more competitive, more expensive, more time consuming and even after all this hardwork and expenditure, it's not sure you are going to get residency. Or if you get, it might not be into good subjects.

There are indications that about 3000 new residency positions are going to be created. so it may balance the increased number of american medical graduates that may compete for residency from 2015.
Author: rockstardelhi, Posted: Post subject:
where are u getting such indications from buddy ?
if u r talking in reference to that bill meant to increase residency seats, then nope, its not gonna pass so soon. moreover as the budget is cut , there is least chance that this bill will pass.
by 2020 probably the situation will stabilize, but surely not from 2015.

there is NO research done on that. Only opinions. It doesn't even make sense. They have increased residency spots and if you don't care about living in rural areas there are always open spots.

Hey buddy, I think you should read this blog, this guy has done quite a good research on the same and has given logical explanations. And about the opinions, I haven't come across any showing any good signs about the issue we are worried about. This discourages me high time.
Do you realize that this question / scare is consistently brought up ever since the 90's. Each year people rehash it. It get's so overblown. If you pass your step 1 and step 2ck on first/second attempts you will get a spot.

Even they are cutting short the outsourcing. So its gonna be difficult.

so basically, USMLE is closed
Author: pranavmerchant, Posted: Post subject:
OK my friend... but the chances of getting residency are still higher than getting a clinical PG here for someone who has no caste advantage!!!
Author: drhnis, Posted: Post subject:
I agree with PRANAV... U still much better chances of PG there then here...
& also some says OBAMACARE will take care of IMG in good way...

Well Ajay the thing is ur starting ur internship, its better if u can do a research & get it published in any international publications like pubmed, NJEM, etc.
it will be better for u if u decide now which superspeciality fellowship u wanna do after ur IM residency, do research in that specific subject if u get any such option or anything related to medicine is good.
Author: drhnis, Posted: Post subject:
sure sandy, i feel something better then nothing. but still if u can score an international research its great.

Hey Ajay, for research i will suggest for research contact any professor or any researcher in initial phase for research.
CS requires more practice, more practice more confidence more good performance....

As far as I know, the number of american medical graduates passing school has gone up. Yes, it is becoming more difficult for the IMGs to get into residency. But if you have good scores, interview well, know the american medical system(ie, have done externships) , have no visa related issues then you can still get into residency. Also, in rural parts of usa they have started ROME program-to get more american doctors to rural areas. I agree getting PG in india is more difficult than getting residency in usa.
Author: Neutrino99, Posted: Post subject: Difficult
It would be very difficult to get in residency since 2015.
Author: akashjkem, Posted: Post subject:
Dont give MLE with that mindset that it is easy to crack mle than PG. In ways usmle is much more difficult than PG entrance in INDIA. plus there is no surity that at end of all the effort ull get matched. Acc to me money is same in both countries but your preferrece to lifestyle the choose mle and if your preferrence to your family, or any other reason then choose PG india.

I know a senior of mine who cant even speak a single sentence in english properly pass CS in 1st attempt. All what matters is confidence. So dont sweat abt CS.
