Love and Bailey is good if started early. SRB difficult to revise still a good book

Author: SonAlit11PostPosted:     Post subject:

For my university exams, I used Bailey and love as my core book and whenever I found it not enough for writing an answer in exams I referred either Manipal or SRB. Mostly the problem was with the treatment part, I referred to Manipal for that ( since I found it concise and easier to remember)
According to me SRB is just too much, we are not required to remember all that. So I avoided SRB except for topics of gen surgery ( provides nice content to keep the answer lengthy icon_razz.gif).

Srb is a great book, not only does it include everything you need to know
About all the important surgery topics but it is all organized fairly well.
There are so many pictures of each case mentooned mand the management is organized by non invasive to invasive measures.
I even find it far better than bailey and love.

Manipal manual more than enough if u referring to Baily n love also

Author: rahulsuri1990PostPosted:     Post subject:

If u have read Bailey throughout the year, I'll say stick to it. It'll help u even more in the long run, and it'll be easier to revise

Author: nsmjiPostPosted:     Post subject:

Of course bailey & love for learning the subject and specially if you're interested in taking up surgery in the future but for last minute exam revisions manipal is more concise and accurate than SRB !

bailey and love review book is there.read all explanations.dont read the textbook.

Bailey is very good for cocepts....one may find it difficult for the university exams.... .so one may start with bailey in the beginning and may refer Manipal manual for the exams....In my opinion SRB has given lots and lots of things which are covered in our pre and para clinical books....for viz...in tubercular lymphadenitis and abdominal tuberculosis ,he has even mentioned about the culture medias and all which we would have already learnt before....so for the exams ,keep things simple and go with Manipal manual....for the concepts it's always BAILEY

SRB is the book you wanna read.. It is very vast though. So prioritize your topics before you start revising..

bailey n love followed by manipal notes.these days surgery superspeciality exam is based on bailey. so studying from bailey will be helpful

Author: drs111PostPosted:     Post subject:

i would suggest u to read manipal for your univ exams along with surgery sixer book for pg entrance..........good luck

Author: nirav1331993PostPosted:     Post subject:

I would like to suggest you that manipal is not much useful for uni exam as my experience.
I would like to suggest Dr.Nazim or Dr.pritesh singh
Pritesh singh book is more benificial .

Manipal manual is more than enough for university and also it is concise, making it apt for the last minute revision. Of course you'll get more points from SRB, but if your motive is extensive reading, do follow just Bailey and Love. Points in SRB seems jumbled up and are difficult to retain. A nice method is to read Manipal and refer Bailey on whichever topic you feel unsatisfied. Add that points into Manipal as paste-it notes, especially those important tables from Bailey. This will help you to remain calm and settled during the last minute revisions.

Study SRB for university exams. It is an amazing book for undergraduate level. If you want a higher level book and are ready to study that for the exams then it's Bailey and love.

From my personal experience
Advantages: 1. Pneumonics
2. Given in the form of points
3. All Points given and repeated multiple times(you will
remember few even if u forget others)
4. Easy to use and recall
5. Many Tables and charts given
Disadvantages: 1. Lengthy
2. Points not classified in the order of most to least important
3. Points repeated multiple times
Advantages: 1. Concise
2. Well organised in orderly fashion
Disadvantages: 1. Fewer points( easy to forget them)
2. Few pneumonics
I used SRB and it turned out to be a very good decision. Based on your reading habits, choose based on the advantages and disadvantages.
What I observed interestingly in SRB is that many topics were picked up directly from standard books.

baileys is good if you want to understand concepts but its too exhaustive and takes time. For exam purpose, manipal is good if you have read baileys but SRB serves the purpose too
