FAMILY PHYSICIANS

Primary Care Pays too...

New York = $170,000/-
Los Angeles = $165,000/-
Houston = $152,000/-
Seattle = $155,000/-

Notice the similarity of pay-scales to Internists ? icon_smile.gif

FP Pros:

Cool and 'un-hectic' Residency which is easier to get
9am-5pm kinda cool job unless you take the emergency / Ob-Gyn track

If you prepared work hard - pays can match IM

FP Cons:

You get a 'Jack-of-All-Master-of-None' Feeling
Few Fellowship options - Geriatrics, Sports Medicine, Emergency Medicine, OB-GYN

Got to stick to the primary care-world

Like Babies ? icon_smile.gif

New York $163,000/-
Houston $145,0o0/-
Los Angeles $157,000/-
Seattle $148,000/-
Note for FMGs/IMGs: A majority of programs offering a pediatric residency program only sponsor the J1 visa. Even if you land a H1 residency, it seems that fellowships program are mostly J1-sponsorors (as a pediatrician friend tells me)

RESIDENCY SALARIES

Resident - Bottom of the food chain icon_wink.gif

Typical stipends or pays across the USA for a resident from any specialty are:

1st Year (PGY1): $34,000 - $45,000/-
2nd Year (PGY2): $37,000 - $47,000/-
3rd Year (PGY3): $38,000 - $49,000/-

CARDIOLOGIST SALARIES

Cardiologist (Medicine)

New York $278,000/-
Los Angeles $268,000/-
Houston $247,000/-
Seattle $252,000/-

Cardiologist (Interventional)

New York $313,000/-
Los Angeles $302,000/-
Houston $279,000/-
Seattle $285,000/-

Figures mentioned on this site are only base-salaries - benefits and bonuses are separate and often add substantially to the month pay-check !

NEUROLOGIST SALARIES (Medicine + Surgery)

Neurology (Medicine)

New York = $204,000/-
Los Angeles = $197,000/-
Houston = $182,000/-
Seattle = $186,000/-

Lately, Neurology has become another favourite with IMGs with many programs sponsoring H1s / J1s and not being so tough to get in. However, applications are to be submitted via the SFmatch matching program and NOT via ERAS and deadlines are much earlier too.

Neurology (Surgery)

New York = $396,000/-
Los Angeles = $ 382,000/-
Houston = $352,000/-
Seattle = $360,000/-

hi,
i donno if anyone has posted it here before.... but i found this article so i'm pinning it up.....

AN INTERNIST

An Internist is what you become after completing your residency in Internal Medicine. So how much would you make if you did not clinch that fellowship after your residency? You still would make enough to make your non-physician neighbour's green with envy...Here's the average yearly internist compensations in a few cities:

New York: $170,000/-

Los Angeles: $165,000/-
Houston: $152,000/-
Seattle: $155,000/-

This specialty is a general favourite with most International Medical Graduates (IMGs) , since:

1. Many programs offer the much sought H1 work visa
2. Easier to get than other specialties
3. Opens doors to exciting Fellowship opportunities
4. Good pays !

Note: Salaries mentioned here are the 50th Percentile Salaries and may apply to mid-career levels - the lower percentile salaries (for fresh physicians) may actually be lower by 30,000- 40,000 $

I have just finished my internship from India and had decided on taking MLE.But in the midst of my preparation, happened to hear a disappointing news that, life as an intern in US is very pathetic.With just 3000-4000$/mnth u will never be able to live well and most of them are forced to do second jobs.And most of the residents are living on debts.Can anyone please help me on this? I would like to know wheather this piece of information i have recieved is right or wrong.Please excuse me on my ignorance.

ur info is way wrong on many counts........

1.IMGs dont have to do internship after doin usmle,they have to do residency.

2.u would be lucky to get 4000$ per month in residency.the usual salary is 35,000-40,000 USD per annum.

3. if u dont live the life style of the rich and famous,u ould be home safely.no ques. of being in debt.

4. second jobs????! for residents????!!

do u think they really have the time or the energy left for tht??

peace!

Believe me thats d funniest thing i've heard on pays in US. Really d guy u dished out all this to u either was pulling ur leg or was out of his mind. 4000$ is a pretty good amount by any standard.

Plus as arihant said, residency in US is not a cakewalk. U gotta work around 80 hrs a week. Could u take 2nd job after that, even if u were broke??

Plus INTERN in US means - After u have completed ur residency. During residency u r not an intern.

Now LIVE WELL is very subjective.. If u wanna drive limos, eat at 7 stars, own villas, then maybe 4000$ won't be enuf... icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif
Otherwise chill... icon_smile.gif

Author: fragile_x PostPosted:     Post subject: ??

which visa u talkin bout???

visitor"s visa for CS???

does it depend upon how much u score??is tht a factor at all??

or u talkin bout residency?? H1b or J 1??

bbye

Author: AshB PostPosted:     Post subject:

Yes arihant scores do matter in visa interview though unpredictably. A year ago it was said that the higher d scores d higher d rejection rate cos VOs though guys with higher scores r more likely to settle.

Now it is said d situation is back to normal. D guys with low scores r looked at suspiciously. VO asks questions like:
1. Do u think with such scores u would get a residency?
2. Asks area of interest and d universities preferred, then again could u get that with such scores
3. What if u don't get admission there cos u have low scores?
4. U could have worked harder to get good scores..

N things like that. What is d logic behind all this, is hard for me to understand but surely they do take a look at scores and take them into consideration, whether +ve or -ve is on our luck and d trend at that time. icon_smile.gif

well......im really surprised with this line of thought & logic that the visa officers follow.

i think they should just tie us to chains in the american embassy & whack us real hard with bard wire!

tht would be easier.

peace!

I dunno what do u mean by 'THIS line of thought'. Cos frankly i fail to see a single line of thought. Its so volatile that we cannot frame any single approach to succeed at the Visa interview. One time they refuse high scorers, other time they welcome them.. God knows who forms their policies!! icon_smile.gif

Yes AshB..you shud be very scared..Any of the VOs who come looking for all our
details might have by now put together the million tidbits about you lying in umpteen different threads..and come up with your real name,age, hobbies,address, list of GFs..and all that jazz.And wudve blacklisted u at all the consulates icon_wink.gif

So, u r no longer safe here..maybe u shud go hide in some obscure forum icon_smile.gif
