hey guyz me to a final yr student & i'm just in dilemma abt surgery cuz most of seniors here r stressin on schwartz than bailey so plz do guide me wat to read 4m schwartz cuz i'm readin bailey so.......... & also tel me abt pretests where do i get dem

das is for clinics..bailey is the text book..
das is a must...u shud know it inside out..no one compromises on that..

i feel bailey is better than das txtbk...havent seen the latest edition but the one i hav seen i felt has too much info for an undergrad..bailey offers the current treatment strategy and relevant past details..das gives every possible therapy mode which was there..sugery steps..etc..
anyway its a qn of personal taste..
but bailey is a text u can quote anywhere anytime..
and above all for pg u hav to read bailey anyways..so i feel it will be easier if u read it from undergrad days..

bailey is d best.... can opt fr SRB if u run out of time or find difficult to understand Bailey!. Gudluck!

harrison maybe for pg...but for all i know if u go for the xam and quote harrison to a surgeon u r done for esp if u say it is frm harrison!!

came across a book by Makhan lal saha...felt it is very gud..covers clinical topics relatively well and the rest only need to be read from bailey...

chill man....ML Saha used to be a professor in our college....and we all read his book.....Arif Naseem is a discovery...... u can see for it in bookstalls...

Bailey is no doubt the best. Majority reads it.
Can my friends tell which medicine book is the best for theory? Is it Davidson, Kumar & Clark, Mathews or CMDT -- obviously I am speaking for UG level. Iam a bit confused.

well depends..
if u r the average student who is not much of a medicine fan but wants to pass with good marks(like me)..the motto is sumthing of everything and everything of sumthing..for this davidson suits the purpose well..
george mathews is like a guide frm skool days and if u can mug up the whole thing gud for u..its like notes based on davidson & harrison.
and if u r the genius, hard core medicine fan all set to be a DM, preparing for that gold medal in medicine..then motto is everything of everything..and the book is no doubt Harrison.

I'm a mediocre one who wants to know the subject as well as to pass the examination smoothly.
Can you tell me name of only one book in surgery (one theory book+one clinics book), only one book in medicine (one theory book+one clinics book), & only one book in G & O (theory & clinics). As time is short, it is not possible to read multiple books.
I want to know some thoughtful answer.

my 'thoughtful' answer: books which which were followed by us:
med theory:davidson/george mathew/krishnadas
med clinics:hutchison/krishnadas and kundu
surgery theory:bailey/srb
surgery clinics:das & saha
obg:sheila balakrishnan & shaw
there r a lot of other gud books too available, but in kerala these were relatively gud buks at undergraduate level, 'at our time'.
moreover we used to use guide books for final yr published frm our clges like synapz frm calicut or lamps frm kottayam.

however i would like to make a humble suggestion, when u reqeust for others opinions,advices or suggestions pls do make it sound like one.for eg. 'i wud like to know abt books followed by friends of other states' is more pleasing to the eye than 'i want more choices'..u would surely get more responses this way, bcoz after all this is just a forum where ppl help each other and not a consultancy firm.

manipal manual is ok book... its for last moment reading if u think ur getting screwed... i guess read srb n das text book.... bailey for general surg n abdomen... write in the imp points from srb in manipal manual if u want....so when u read manipal manual b4 xams it will help.....i think srb is a very good book ...the latest edition is more exam oriented helps a lot with mcq's too!!

i think u should see arif naseem at once n then decide,its v good as it contains mnemonics n mcqs are underlined.itz a very useful book.just take a look at it then think.
