whole process will take between 1 to 2 years if you are solely dedicated to usmle preparation. You need find observeship rotations once you are done with all the exams and get excellent LORs

hi all..
i saw in another thread that from 2015 the door to us for residency wil b shut to IMGs because of increased medical schools and students in usa and with increasing AMGs the total number of vacancies wil b sufficient for AMGs. ..................
so is this wise step to invest lots of money and energy for usmle.. especially fresh beginners who wants to give step 1 now.....?
plz advise me coz i want to prepare for usmle, bt ever increasing difficulties to get matching , lors and observation ships and now also this residency problems, i am hesitating............
and how much time it may take for me if i start my preparation for usmle from now to get matched and enter into residency...
can any one add a word one the stipend during residency and the salary to IMGs post residency while working.. and job opportunites in india if we come with board certification...
thank u in advance..........

Hello Drpreeti,
What are the chances of getting MS General Surgery in US for Indian doctors? Approximately what should be the percentage?
I have been to the US and I also have the visa for 10 long years. Just opted out USMLE because of the department. I want to become a surgeon. Now that Indian PG entrances are getting way too worse than they were, i have lost hopes and also interest to serve this country after seeing how we are being treated.
I have also heard that the Indian surgeosn there just does small procedures and prevent any risky cases because of the legal problems usually surgeons face.
Please do reply!!

that's obvious Dr
In general no matter where U go in & around the world, a US Dr will be preferred over an Indian or as a matter of fact any other Country other than the US or probably The UK maybe. If U get into surgicals U need 2 be given a chance to prove yourself and be reassured that U'll b probably the last in the line to b givn a chance 2 perform a surgery after ur US colleagues. after all, even if ure their colleague U still are a foreigner to them. BUT.. if u get in2 IM,PED,PSY,FM there's a gud chance that U'll find ur fellow country man as ur senior who will b inclined towards helping u if at all u need sum.. BUT if u r a hardcore fan of SURGICALS-- *LIKE ME* & wanna break all those shackles, GET AN OUTSTANDING SCORE WITH CLINICAL EXPERIENCE(which gives u d LORs) and work ur sweat off to gain an edge over ur US colleagues.
(I cant beleive i just typed all this.may be the frustration and desperation inside me were bursting out.. gosh..)

surgical fields are quite difficult for Asians or rather any IMG they say!! medicine, pharmacology, psychiatry are the branches which most Indians usually opt!!
