FAQ: How to read pharma - anti or retro?
ok one more confusion for poor me....how to read pharma......anti or retro....hope tripathi is more than enough..any suggestion guys ?????

UNANSWERED: Creating separate cadre for mbbs in teaching faculty in medical colleges as tutors / demonstrators.

dr_pkj

prospectively, of course!!!
anuj,
the mcqs from pharma is found in many subjects like medicine, gynae ophthalm,etc.. so this particular subject should be read thoroughly and prospectively. but yes before that do it once retrospectively at least so that u should get an idea of the most imp topics and u should concentrate more on these topics.hope this helps u!

I think , first you go through the important topics like anti retroviral agents, lipid lowereing drugs, anticancer agents etc. If time permits, consult Harrison. THEN READ TRIPATHI ANTI.. atleast ONCE.

dr_jekyl

FIRST decide your game plan.If u have enough time and going for the kill, straight way is the best.Along with that, refference study is much more helpful!!!ALL THE BEST!

i think reading tripathi prospectively is of no use except u will just refresh your BASICS!!!! but the questions which comes in pharmac are not of basics only .. they will tease your brain with drug interactions.. adverse effects...and pharmacokinetics even ...so its better to get the basics from somewhere and then start solving questions ... because when we go retro ... the time we take to find that particular topic helps us to store that pasrticular question in our mind as well as its answer... so doesnt mater if u dont get the explanation but atleast u can cram the answer sometimes .... and let me tell u .. tghe mock tests in pharmac are really very helpful ....

Sorry dear..... KDTripathi is ONE book from which we can answer more than 80 % of the questions......

My opinion about your statement above is that it is a guess work or misinformation

KDTripathi may not answer 100 % of questions, but no other book can also do that... and KDT can answer more questions than most other books

Bruno

There is no Retro for Path and Pharmac

You have to read KDTripathi and Robbins Back to Back if you are thinking about a rank in AIPGME

Or there is another alternative

one secret in si to refer the katzung study partner which have lots of tricky Q based on the reference from katzung!

the drugs and interactions are given at one place in the book with tables and all..........i feel personally that its good for reference.....

BUT>.....tripathi is nice (refer 5 ed.)....cuz it is actually a condensation of Goodman and Gillman & katzung.....with newer drugs added and newer classification systems...more important is that older outdated drugs are removed!........so go for it and believe me u wont regret it!

hey thanks for soooo many ideas on how to crack pharm... but wud like a tried n tested way to do it..... all ppl say kdt is enough but to be frank i dont like it at all... no doubt majority questions will be from it only ... n i will have to read kdt only (not gonna read a totally new book now...well atleast not the textbooks)...

i prepared using across pharmac ... quite good explainations ... to the point but sometimes dont live up to the question asked... havent been able to read aa ... its explaination seemed quite good.

can some1 write an article like the one on harrison (read harrison efficiently) or atleast provide some list of high yield topics from pharmac like of meds. that wud be a great favor....

JUST A HUMBLE REQUEST BY A TROUBLED COLLEGUE WHO SHARES A PROBLEM MANY MUST BE FACING ...

icon_wink.gif hope some1 can help me out

ANTE OR RETRO
When you study ante: it takes a lot of time and you are not aware of the important topics that can be asked in the exams. But this type of study makes your basics very clear and you get a videographic memory of the various topics.
on the other hand RETROGRADE study has the advantage of completion in less time and there are less chances of missing the previously asked questions. But by retrograde study there are high chances that the new questions will be missed.

TO OVERCOME THE DISADVANTAGES OF THE TWO STUDIES AND TO COMBINE THE ADVANTAGES OF ANTEGRADE AND RETROGRADE STUDIES, WE HAVE WRITTEN A BOOK " REVIEW OF PHARMACOLOGY, BY DR. GOBIND RAI GARG AND DR. SPARSH GUPTA, PULSE PUBLICATIONS."
if you got time, go through this book. you can know by yourself. in addition 5 important chapters have been added in this book. these are
chapter on new drugs
chapter on adverse effects of the drugs
chapter related to drug of choice
chapter on recent topics (like anti-obesity drugs) that being increasing asked in the exams
chapter on the solved papers of the AI and AIIMS (latest)

very sensible advice. as such pharma and patho are two most important subjects. even maximum questions in medicine are related to these two subjects.
