I recommend the doctor's in training series. Great 3 week crash course and also uses recall quizzes for reinforcing topics. I would memorize the quiz questions and answer. At least 10 questions straight from those. Very High Yeild material in the quizzes. Good luck!

Hello everyone...
I'm new to this forum and to the whole USMLE preparation thing. I've graduated in 2010 from Kerala. I actually have a lot of doubts, that i'm hoping to get cleared here:
1. to target 2016 match, how soon should i start studying for usmle step 1?
2. when should i start ecfmg application process? how soon after applying can i schedule a test date for usmle step 1.
3. is step 3 a pre-requisite for applying for the match? if not, what advantage does writing step3 give?
4. what, if any, are the advantages of giving step 2 cs before step 1?
5.is it possible to do externships/observerships and study for the steps at the same time? or should i be setting apart time for that separately?
i realize i've asked a lot of questions. i hope you all will be able to help me. Thanks!

One more doubt... For how long does one usually do externships or observerships? What would be the ideal length of time?

what is your source for this info ?
Hi, what makes you say that UK is closed for foreign doctors ? I haven't read any such news anywhere. Please tell us what you mean by that statement and state your source.
As far as i know UK is very welcoming to Doctors from anywhere in the world as long as they meet the standards set by the Medical community.

Hi,
Thanks you for helping students like us. I want to give a try at both USMLE and AIPGME. My query is that "Are the format and questioning patterns in these exams same or different? Would I have to adopt different methods of preparation for them? Would preparing for one exam help in preparing for the other?"

2- how easy isit to get peds residency and further superspecialisation in say peds gastro?
3- how long does it taketo get matched say if i start in sept this year to prepare for MLE.
4- are USMLE steps and americal board accreditation recognised in any other country than the US. if yes, what are the job prospects?

1. It's never too late to apply for USMLE. People apply even 10-15 years after their graduation.
2. It will be easier for you to get the Peds residency as you are already a pediatrician in India. Experience matters most to them. Almost everyone does some super-specialization as without them you don't get attractive jobs. No one can guarantee a particular branch though.
3. If you start in September, you should take at least 7-8 months for Step 1 as you will have to brush up your pre and paraclinical subjects as you will be out of touch since long. Then you can start for CK and depending on how confident you feel in the clinical one, you can take anything between 4-6 months. You can appear for CS in between CK preparation or you can give it after CK. That will take another 1-2 months. So that's it.
I would like to add that you can increase or decrease the time you take depending on how clear your concepts are in all the subjects. Guys from AIIMS/PGI take hardly 1 month for each step. So it all depends on your grasping power:)
But I would advice against being too over-confident as MLE steps are a lot different than out Indian exams.
4. Most Euro countries recognize residency from US but trust me the amount that is paid to doctors in US is matchless. You will realize this once you get there and will never leave
Finally, stop worrying about your gap, you were not sitting idle, you got a residency and that matters most. If you have some published work related to peds, that would be better.
I too am an Indian pathologist going for the pathology match.
Hope this helped

Firstly, I am currently giving my MD exams, so I am not a sir. Instead you are a maa'm for me but since we are going to US where we drop the sir, maa'm culture, I'll not call you that
Anyway, even your Indian MD will be recognized in the gulf, Singapore, Malaysia etc let alone the degree in US. US trained guys are sought after all over the world

Any fellowship/residency in US after MBBS, MD/MS or even DM/Mch in India requires you to clear the three USMLE steps. Without the three steps you don't get fellowships(the AAMC recognized ones that is) and moreover without residency in US, despite having a fellowship, you cannot go for clinical practice in US. You may take an academic/research job though.
The only exception to this were the fifth pathway programs that used to handpick IMGs for residencies but those programs are over now acc to the ECFMG website.
Consider a simple example : We have the MCI exams for people who did MBBS from Russia/China. Now suppose if someone does a residency in those countries and then applies for a DM/Mch in India. Now do you think India will allow him to do a DM or they will ask him to clear the MCI exam first and then do a residency in India and then apply for DM/Mch. So many rules for a developing nation like ours. Now it seems US has been very liberal to allow fellowships directly after steps and foreign PGs, doesn't it?

2012 Med Graduate from India-Failed in Step2 CS-Any chances of getting into Residency-Reg
Hello there,
I'm a medical graduate from India who gave my Step2 CS in 2013 and unfortunately failed in it. I haven't given any Step other than Step2 CS. Following failure in Step2 CS, I gave up my USMLE Plans and started working in various hospitals at various locations in India. Have been working for abt 15 months now. Only a few days ago I quit my job and decided to seriously prepare for entrance exams. Just wanted to know if there is any chance for me to retain hopes of getting into USMLE. Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Is it possible for me to get the residency in US???
Hi all.
I found Rxpg really helpful for people like me who have less exposures.
I finished my internship in sep,2013. I failed in 1st year. And I passed the rest of years in casual batch with 1st attempt. I am working as JR in surgery after being graduated.
I want to give USMLE exams from the beginning. bt I was afraid of giving bcuz of my 1st year failure. Even my friends told me that USMLE is not for students like us.
Pls help me..my queries are
1. Can I appear for USMLE all steps with 2-3 year gape after my mbbs?
2. To get the residency, Do they consider usmle steps marks only??
If they consider the academics of mbbs,Is there any chance for me to get the residency?
3. How many problems I m gonna face till the end of my usmle residency
because of my 1st year failure???
Plz help !!! I need complete guidance.. I have given AIPGMEE 2 times bt not qualified. My seniors advised me to give USMLE as it is easy and
logical than AIPGMEE.
But the door of USMLE open for students like me????
Do needful.Thanking you in advance.

I even heard they made these graduates sign something like a bond with the govt. to wat extent is it true.
