The renal vein collar is an anatomical vascular malformation which may be around aorta or IVC.

The usual procedure for palliation in renal cell carcinoma is embolisation fo renal artery, so perhaps the so called renal collar is also put around renal artery only. The spread is of course through renal vein but one cannot tie renal vein with kidney in situ.
