These days it is still okay (with samller magnets and now open markets coming to market), earlier it used to be long narrow tunnel (for maintaining the field homogenity), in which one is pushed with such noises (noises from gradient coils) around. It feels like everything would fall on you and you would not be able to help yourself. I also used to think "why claustrophobia?" until I really went inside the magnet, it was frightening for the first time (even though it was new one). It was not for some medical examination, but just an experiment and then I was too tired and I slept inside. After going once it was okay for next itme. Once I took a coin by mistake, I had removed my sweater and there were lots of coins in my pocket, I had removed them but one remained lying in some corner. I was about to lie on the table when it flew like [bleep] from my pocket, it created lots of noise and then when it was found sticking on the magnet did I realise that one coin was still there. God knows what patients feel who are already in lots of other problems.
