With respect to bile acids:
(i) in man, two primary bile acids are formed, cholic acid and cheno-deoxycholic acid
(ii) primary bile acids are conjugated with either glycine or taurine in the liver
(iii) after bacterial attack in the intestine, secondary bile acids are formed
(iv) lithocholic acid can readily be absorbed by the active transporter for bile acids in the small intestine
(v) deoxycholic acid is partly absorbed from the colon
