Quick Scroll Debate: Andhra Doctors. How responsible are they? 12.07.05 (2 years ago) #1

this is in response to our respected governement's recent proposal to make a 5 yr period of service mandatory to postgraduates ...
the governement cites use of public money in making of doctors as the prime reason for this..
well.. honestly .. based on this sole reason.. a post graduate trained in anasthesia can't be made to work in some remote primary health centre where he will never get near an operation more serious than the average vasectomy..
also, given that we are living in a democratic republic.. what ever we do is with public's money...just as we are not expected to do nothing much after we use street lights powered with public money; no one can actually demand something out of the doctors too..
the will to serve one's people should come out of one's own free will.. it cant just be imposed according to the whims of unqualified power holders.
also.. why is no one talking about the IIT's... arent they run by public money...infact.. the money spent on making a doctor is actually not entirely spent on the student.. it goes partly in improving the health standards of the society.. where does that leave IIT's and host of other prestigious national institutes...
if the governement wants quality service to its people let it pay for it.. improve the conditions , make good working environments.. rather than imposing additional burden on the already overworked post graduates. we have seen how honest are the governement's efforts in doing this for the past few years.. in which strikes by APJUDA have turned into a perennial occurence; thanks to appeasing measures by the governement.

i support your view.
it is impossible for a postgraduate to work in PHC bcos of lack of infrastructure.
you are not liberated to prescribe medications of your choice even.
every thing is constricted there.
it will be more appropriate if govt announces a year or two after PG that too in only area hospitals.
introduction of senior recideny in teritiary refferrel hospitals .
