meckel's diverticulum

the Meckel's diverticulum is the commonest true diverticulum of the small bowel, occuring in 2% of the population. It is often located 2 feet from the ileoceal valve, is 2 inches in length and occurs from the incomplete closure of the omphalomesentric or vitelline duct. Cells lining the vitelline duct are pluripotent and so the diverticulum can be lined by gastric, pancreatic, colonic or duodenal mucosa
