Quick Scroll HC stays order warning withdrawal of AICTE approval 06.29.04 (4 years ago) #1

The Madras High Court on Monday stayed a part of an order of a committee, set up for fixing the fee structure for Private Professional Educational Institutions in Tamil Nadu, warning that any deviation of its order would result in withdrawal of AICTE approval among other things.

Justice R Balasubramanian issued the interim stay on a writ petition filed by All India Medical and Engineering Colleges Association challenging the order, which comes into effect from the 2004-05 academic year and remains effective for three academic years ending 2006-07.

The five-member Justice (retd) A Raman Permanent Committee, which met on June 8 had also decided to disaffiliate and fine colleges violating its directions.

The corresponding fee for NBA accredited courses was fixed at Rs 40,000 per annum by the committee.

Forbidding institutions from collecting or levying any recurring or non-recurring fee, including capitation fee, the committee had warned that deviation of its order would entail serious penal consequences.
