- Gastric cancer is usually adenocarcinoma

- Rarely it is localized and is cured by surgery

- Adjuvent chemotherapy and concurrent radiation IMPROVE outcome after surgery

- Locally advanced but unresectable cancers are treated by concomitant chemotherapy and radiotherapy

- Metastatic disease---- palliative therapy is by chemotherapy

mostly early gastric carcinoma's are asymptomatic and by the time they are discovered the condition is out of hands of surgeon..
mostly diffuse type in young patient.. prognosis is bad..
the tumour is radioresistant so radiotherapy required is in very high doses which may produce ill effects on the adjacent organs like pancreas spleen etc. so radiotherapy is mainly reserved for palliation..
chemotherapy is also not helpful..
adjuvant chemo and concurrent radio has shown promising outcome in only 5% cases...
if detected early then surgery is done with resection of the organ chances of recurrence ate surgical anastomosis is high...
