scanning speech is seen in MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS.

Also note:

cerebellar speech:
speech seen with cerebellar lesions, varying from jerky or scanning to explosive. See also scanning s. and explosive s.

cleft palate speech:
dysphasia due to a cleft palate, often characterized by hypernasality, difficulty with fricatives, and other problems due to the velopharyngeal insufficiency.

clipped speech:
speech in which the words are slurred over and uncompleted; called also scamping s. and slurred s.

esophageal speech:
a method of speech used after laryngectomy, with sound produced by vibration of the column of air in the esophagus against the contracting cricopharyngeal sphincter.

explosive speech:
speech uttered with more force than necessary; see also cerebellar s.

mirror speech:
a speech abnormality in which the order of syllables in a sentence is reversed.

plateau speech:
speech which is characterized by a level, monotonous, unvaried pitch.

pressured speech: logorrhea.

staccato speech:
speech in which each syllable is uttered separately; seen in multiple sclerosis.

telegraphic speech:
speech consisting of only certain prominent words and lacking modifiers, articles, and other ancillary words. It is typical of children around age two but in older persons it is a form of agrammatism.
