What r the cardinal symptoms of Kwashiorkar ? A child having distended abdomen, scanty hairs, moon face but no dermatitis at inguinal region . How will it be confirmed that he have Kwashiorkar.

Hey Kwashiorkor means the weight/age ratio is between 60-80% with oedema... the signs dont define Kwashiorkor..

Underweight is weight/age between 60-80% without oedema.

Marasmic-Kwashiorkor is weight/age <60% with oedema and

weight /age < 60% without oedema is Marasmus...

I just want to add that kwashiorkori sbecause of protien deficiency,leadind to edema.Whereas marasmus is protein and calorie deficiency..
