you can get family medicine in some colleges but still if you want any program in a good or for that matter even an average med school you should go for the steps.

MPH with GRE scores

PhD with GRE scores. Fellowships following USMLE (without doing residency) if you have an MD from a recognised institute (AIIMS or PGI) in the pertinent field. VERY rare, to the point of non-existent.

Dear All,
Anyone please can tell me how I get the family medicine without going through Steps??? Its really interested subject and I never heard about it...please any one can help me with it ... I really appreciate every efforts...Thank you

scepticemia

sam, you cannot do an MD in family medicine or anything, for that matter, in the USA, without doing your steps. You could, however, try to get an obervership or clerkship or something like that... but nowadays even that is in such high demand that most places either ask for step 1 score or ginormous amounts of money.

i guess there is no such thing witout USMLE except u opt for research .... i myt b wrong though ....as far as i know u dont have much options left except MLE for entering into clinical side

scepticemia

smi_dev you're quite right. and even for clinical research you would need to do gre toefl and have a good application...

if i get GP training from UK or Ireland,, can i work in USA as family medicine doctor ? means do i need usmle only or will have to do residency again??

crackpg14

I would like to reframe the question can someone tell options
To an Indian medical graduate other than usmle to get settled in USA with a decent pay.

scepticemia

@jojobo to practice any (legally accepted) form of medicine in the USA you shall have to be licensed from US institute. which means doing the usmle and then residency. having a gp license in ireland or uk may be of value in securing an interview but is unlikely to be of any further value.

for pharma an mba would be preferred. for RA you would need a strong cv. gre is optional. you would have to evaluate how useful it is though...

a low score is a virtual dead end for the usmle dream unless you have a great profile or know someone in some position who can help you get pulled in...

Aim Indian PG Exams

isnt it true that low scores can get pediatrics or pathology?

scepticemia

it was true about 3-4 years ago. now anything below 230 on the steps and your chances decrease exponentially. relatively speaking... there are several criteria aside from scores like profile, us clinical experience, quality of LORs etc that matter... but the scores are the first line stuff...

forensoic medicine is equivalent to clinical pathology in the usa. it is extremely competitive and IMGs hardly get to break into it...

as to my knowledge you cannot do rotation in the USA, without doing your steps.

Usmle steps are must for any decent medical practice especially now as the competition is very high

What r u talking about? Dude many indian students struggling there even after passing MLE and completing MPH course until they get into residency programs! Even family medicine isnt that easy to get into with average scores. Plz do not misguide ppl..
