Hi Brett,
If you are finding it difficult to recruit practitioner for your practice , y dont u apply for AON status for those positions , so tht we can all send u our resume and work with u in conditional registration status.
As of AMC, its a tedious process, I guess we all wud want training positions after clearing AMC with supervised training

Hello lasp22
There are three problems with area of need:
1. You will not be approved as an area of need surgery unless you are a remote or rural practice(this means at least three hours from a major city)
2. We do have one practice area of need but have had two doctors sit the interview and both failed. This is because the doctor must have worked in a healthcare system such as UK,US,NZ,Canada
, and must have had relevant GP experience for over 5 years.
3. The cost for the area of need interview is AUS[no ads please]
1500 and this is too expensive to have doctors sit the interview and then fail.
Once you have completed the AMC exams and hospital training, you can work in a metro area if you are a temporary resident, and you can work in a rural location if you are a permanent resident.
There are alot of doctors coming through the system now, but we need more so for all you doctors thinking of completing the AMC, go for it!!!!!!
Brett

| We run busy medical centres in Sydney, and south of Sydney. We are looking for GP's to work in our centres. You must have completed the AMC exams and your year of supervised training |
why would anyone who has completed both parts of the amc and supervised training want to work as a GP at a medical centre when a world of opportunities awaits him?
as lasp rightly said they would be interested in training positions

the gold coast is about 90 minutes away from Brisbane, yet it is an area of need

Plabotomy,
I was referring to NSW not Queensland. Everywhere in Queensland is Area of Need, they dont have enough doctors anywhere. There health system is crumbling.
It is also my understanding that the majority of doctors choose to work as a GP after completing supervised training, as most doctors that complete the process are GP's in their own country.
In regards to training positions, why would you offer a GP training position to a doctor that did not want to be a GP?

yes queensland health is in a bad state
but they are working hard to stem the rot
and seem to be succeeding
atleast people in queensland are not trying to recruit after 6pm on a friday evening
the majority of people in this forum want to do something better than be GPs. Surely they will keep the GP thing as a last option if all else fails
When Lasp said

Please not we all wud want training positions is what he said
And surely he meant training positions in medicine or surgery or ED or Psychiatry
and NOT training in GP.
I am not sure that u are aware that there are opportunities other than GP

I dont believe you have a thorough understanding of the Australian health care system, so I wont be too critical of your message.
However, I think that you will find that the majority of Australian doctors are trying to get out of the hospital system, and get into private practice, whether it be as a General Practitioner or as a specialist. This is due to funding of the healthcare system, lack of support, and poor remuneration.
This is why hospitals(especially in Queensland) are full of area of need positions, as no Australian-trained doctors want to fill these postions.
As for trying to downgrade the position of a general practitioner, I think that you will find they are the backbone of medicine in Australia
. Good luck getting referrals as a specialist if you dont respect GPs.

oh so you are an expert on Oz are you
then u must be the most noble person I have met
and also the only Australian on this forum
and I dont know much of the Oz system?
then surely I know nothing of the ten year moratorium
Sorry I am not concerned about the australian doctors, let them make their money
But yes their moving into private practise has proved to be a blessing in disguise to OTDs for now we can actually get jobs in Oz
I intend to specialise in ED! I think theres not much of private practise in ED I can do without GP referrals thank you
