hey BAiley doesnt suggest hemorrhage as the most common..........it just says.......reactionary h'ge is much more common than secondary h'ge.

Hey………its ok…….that’s one mistake I make very often..

I have always considered retention to be the more common coz for two funny reasons

One-bailey puts it before other complications

Two—in my 2mnths of surgery rotations I have dealt with a bit “too many to forget” situations of trying to explain a pt. the treatment of this problem…….actually seeing me counsel a post-hemorrhoidectomy pt. how to pee was a source of entertainment for the surgery residents……..and I foolishly complied quite a few times…

saw retention all the time but never once a h’ge case…….

Chalo……….some questions have less than logical explanations too…atleast for me..!!!

Dear members

Urinary retention is not only more common but also logical because of:arrow:

1. Pain which causes reflex myospasm of ALL muscles including urinary sphincters

2. Associated trauma to nerves by stretch / incision / cautery

It is wise to catheterise ONLY if the paitent is unable to inhibit the spasm by some voluntary fixation assisted by fomentation and privacy.
