Aim USMLE Step 1

Can I get a residency after 3 year gap since MBBS
I passed MBBS in 2015. I have been unemployed for past 3 years. If I clear all the USMLE steps with good scores, can I get a decent residency position in USA. Will the 3 year gap cause any problems? I don't have any publications. I understand I can only get observerships and not electives and my resume is weak as of now. Will that slim my chances of getting a residency? How should I proceed. Please someone guide me.

Yes. YOG is a fact but if you clear all your USMLE exams within 5 years of your graduation then that will be fine. But there's also no major problem if you cant clear all the exams within 5 years pof grad

So the gap doesn't matter?
I don't get what you meant by "if you can't clear all exams within 5 years there's no major problem". Can you please elaborate what problems are there because of gap years in getting a residency. TIA.

Let that dream go.
Negatives against you :-
3 year gap- how do you explain this ? work - no. research - no, volunteering - no, studying some other degree - no
you cant and this affects you negatively as they will see you as not good fit since you aren't career focussed
no publications
no research experience
no specialization
no contacts to vouch for u
u will get observership vch peeps get by paying 2-3000$ so that will also affect ylu negatively as they know that any letter of recommendation u get is paid for indirectly
instead do radiology and then proceed to usa easier.
even if you manage to clear usmle u will get family medicine or medicine with great difficulty in some malignant program

Definitely possible to match but will need to score well.
If you look at the match data, ability to match drops precipitously after 2 years of graduation even from a US school. Strong USMLE performance will help. Ability to obtain observerships or US clinical exposure will also make a big difference.

Hello,
I wanted to know if there is a problem if I have a gap in my internship to clear USMLE.
I have done 10 months of internship and then had a personal problem, so had a gap of 18 months and then resumed back with the remaining 2 months. So July 2011 I completed my 10 months and April 2013 I completed my last two remaining months of internship.
