more common one :-

E. coli

Also .. pseudomonas, klebsiella

This is a very braod que. organism causing nosocomial infection depends on age of the pt, antecedent factors and site. i am a pediatrician and in pediatric icu setting here are some examples-

1. UTI related to indwelling catheter- E.coli
2. Pneumonia esp Ventilator associated pneumonia- pseudomonas and acinetobacter
3. vascular access device esp central lines- CONS (coagulase -ve staphy)

the commonest localised infections in picu are UTI and pneumonia. Overall, Klebseilla is reporeted in most of the western (esp US) literature but in India, we find E. coli to be the commonest isolate.

ok,so all catheter/i v line,intracath related nosocomial infection by Coaguase negative staphylococci except UTI DATS by e.coli..

i think d most common nosocomial infn. is uti & is due to e.coli.
the commonest cause for nosocomial pneumonia is pseudomonas.
plz correct if wrong
