Diagnosis of Aortic Dissection Requires a high index of suspicion. CXR has low sensitivity but may show a widened mediastinum or a hazy aortic knob. CT scan with IV contrast is diagnostic and shows the extent of dissection. Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is highly sensitive and specific.
