this is what i meant- ultimately what matters is whether you are happy or not. i am not happy doing research, well somebody might be. each of them is important!

hi kp1 . well i think any one can gain satisfaction even by serving people of medical profession , by serving patients with new revolution in pharama industry. satisfaction can't be only by tretaing or diagnosing a patient. In recovery of any patient medicines/ phamaceuticals, medical technology , medical methods, medical reserches all that matter. you can't say that a doctor can get satisfaction only by treating & diagnosing patients. I feel such people are great who serves the healthcare industry.
sorry if something hurt u.

I completely agree with mr bocardi. talent can't be only seen with clinical medicine.

hello kaurodoctor,
as i said, whichever you feel is better. if you see talent reqd for paraclinical and you are happy exploring talent in that field then fine go ahead. all my best wishes for you.
but i wanted to say something here- talent is reqd for both.
yes, all physicians are not good physicians. some are more talented than others. but definitely talent is reqd for all- be it clinical or paraclinical. even the best guy in research may be just lucky to be in a good research association and may do something in that field, just because of the some good collegues he is working with and the contacts he has. it might be so he is not that talented at all!
so what i mean to say, you need talent for both, and each individual has a different talent level and creativity. each of the jobs is equally important for human life and it all depends whether you are happy with it or not.
if you ask for my opinion, i will prefer working in the clinics over research because i simply love my clinics! i want to explore my talent to give the best of the treatment to every patient that i will see in future and i have tried doing the same in the past. i donot care if i get paid more or less in clinics over research work. simply i love my job!
all my very good wishes
Ameer

Hi
work is workship what you do, do it with dedication.yes for some people working in pharmaceutical company as researcher is not a intresting option as it dosn't involve patient contact . But when you join MBBS you dont know whether you can form a good therapeutic relationship with payients, some one with asperger who has high iq but less social skills cant be a very good doctor but a very good researcher.
researchers are the one who will find new ways of treatment without them medicine would be still in dark ages

CHEERRRRRRSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS TO ALL...

HI AMEER, I AGREE THAT TALENT IS REQUIRED FOR BOTH.... BUT POINT IS WHICH ONE REQUIRES MORE?
ANS IS OBVIOUSLY PARACLINICAL.....
JUST IMAGINE TWO SITUATIONS

CLINICAL
PRESENT ERA, WOT U DO?
HOW U DIAGNOSE MI?
WOT U DO?
ASK TO DO TRPONIN I
ECG
ROUTINE BLOOD
N FINALLY U GIVE DIAGNOSIS BY USING SO CALLED TALENT.....
Y U NEED ALL THESE INVESTIGATIONS(INVENTED BY PARACLINICAL PERSONS)?
THEN TREATMENT IS ALSO GIVEN WHICH IS MUGGED UP FROM BOOKS...U USE UR TALENT IN MUGGING UP THOSE OLD THINGS....
I AGRREE THAT U USED UR TALENT IF ONLY U HAVE DIAGNOSED D PATIENT WID HELP OF ONLY HISTORY,SIGNS SYMPTOMS...WITHOUT D HELP OF INVESTIGATIONS...

N NOW THINK THAT PARACLINICAL PERSONS FINDING OUT TOTALLY NEW THINGS ..WHICH R NOWHERE GIVEN...NOT IN ANY BOOK....JUST IMAGINE HOW LOUIS PASTEUR CALLED THAT NEW THING AS ANTHRAX?THAT IS TALENT...

ALL THIS IS MY OPINION....
CLINICAL...MUGGING UP THINGS FROM BOOKS, ASKING TO DO HEAVY INVESTIGATIONS , (TAKING COMMISSION FOR THAT )THEN GIVING TREATMENT WHICH IS ALSO MUGGED UP....AFTER DOING ALL THIS IF NOTHING IS HAPPENING JUST NAME THAT CONDITION AS IDIOPATHIC OR PYEXIA OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN (PUO ITS SWEET SHORT FORM) N LEAVE THE PATIENT AS IT IS....

NOW SEARCHING THE UNKNOWN THING (IN PUO) REQUIRES MORE TALENT....ISNT IT? THAT WORK IS DONE BY PARACLINICALS...

THIS IS JUZ ONE EXAMPLE....

THIS IS D STORY...
BUT TO B FRANK M ALSO INTERESTED IN CLINICAL ....OBVIOUS MUGGING UP THINGS , EXPERIENCE...MOST IMP MORE MONEY THAN PARACLINICALS.... KEEPING IN MIND I DONT HAVE SO MUCH TALENT TO INVENT NEW THING IN THIS WORLD..N I ALSO DONT WAN TO SPEND MY LIFE IN THAT....I AM A COMMON MAN...
BYEEEEEEEEE...

to some extent i agree with what dg_ash has said, social skills are definitely required. when somebody applies for MBBS course, they hardly know their social skills, it is only when they go for the clinics in 3rd and 4th yr, they realise their true potential and hence for them who doesnt have enuf social skills, research might be one good option. again as i told you earlier, brains are required for both. and some power of intuition, judgement, determination, etc are reqd to be a good physician.
