Quick Scroll Tips: Sample format of a covering letter 11.09.04 (3 years ago) #1

A covering letter is a document included by you in the completed application for any job in NHS. THis letter is meant ONLY for the medical staffing officers and not for the shortlisting panel. It intends to give a brief description about the post you have applied for, your contact details and other vitals etc. It is meant to help the medical staffing with putting your application in right place and help them get all your contact info in one place if they need to (e.g. in case of a shortlisting). Moreover it minimises the chances of your application from being misplaced in their records. It is not essential to send a covering letter if it is not specified, but we would recommend sending one with every application as a part of GOOD APPLICATION PRACTICE.

You can write the letter by hand or get it typed if you have an access to a computer. It does not matter how you do it. A lot of people will tell you to include only the typed covering letters but we are of the opinion that it is just a waste of time (which can be spent elsewhere for better results) if you do not have an access to a computer. We know many people who got BIG ROTATIONS with handwritten covering letters.

Hi Hansen, welcome to RxPG.

Covering letter helps to make the job of medical staffing officer easier and does not play any role in shortlisting.

You are required to send only ONE covering letter per application pack. If you are supposed to send 7 CVs, you should send only one covering letter.
