Covering letter is meant only for the medical staffing personnel's records and is not considered for your shortlisting. However you can add an additional paper with your CV for this purpose. It might work or might not work, it all depends on the shortlisting panel. If it is a structured shortlisting process, they wont consider any thing else than the CV or the application form. If it is only one consultant who is short listing you (usually for the stand alone jobs), then this additional page might be beneficial.

thank u very much....i had applied for some jobs where they asked to explain about suitability for job in a separate sheet plus cv and they did not mention about the covering letter....so i got such a doubt.....thanku
