Quick Scroll got a degree? what next? 12.20.06 (1 year ago) #1

Hi there, seniors, friends and everyone just scrolling through...
i have just started my career in ENT and i realize that it needs more than a degree and some amount of patience to get through in this, more than most other subjects...
i was wondering if we could discuss, for everyone's benefit, what are the options for someone passing out of a postgraduate course in ORL-HNS in india right now, where one has to go and what one has to do post degree and where that will get us... an im sure there are many avenues which need persuit even before we graduate. Will you contribute to this query?
Thanks,
BEP

blackeyedpea Where are u doing ur pg from n in which year..In ENT u need a lot of patience, the learning curve is slow...dedication and proper knowledge of Anatomy is what is required than merely a degree...we have an entconsultant on our website....i request him to solve ur quieries as i am still doing my DNB ...he will be in a better position as he has lot of experience..

no bravo, i have not done my postgraduation, im still a student. thanks for your reply though.
im studying for my master's in karnataka. i dont think that it is ever too early to look out for options or plan for the future in any field, even in ENT , and though it requires a lot of patience and a thorough grounding in the basics, we will be stuck nowhere if we start thinking about the next step too late... i think this is one lesson none of us should forget after the trauma of postgraduate entrance exams...
i hear that there are some options for doing a fellowship abroad also even in a branch like ENT which is considered a superspecialty in many countries... but they may require things like USMLE scores etc... but, i dont have any specific details about these....
thats why i started this thread... hoping that wiser people and seniors who have gone through the process would give us pointers, and request that anyone who has info help each other out.
by the way, where are you persuing your DNB ? what are your future plans?

Colleges differ in terms of infrastructure and faculty from state to state, and even from year to year. ENT is kindof like a superspecialty, and different places have special development in certain aspects... in fact, even the prescence or abscence of a single faculty member in that institution may sometimes make or break it... so, if you want an answer for your question, we would need more details...
of course the well known AIIMS , Manipal and such institutions do have good faculty. when any institution becomes of a certain stature, it attracts specialists of all faculties... where do u want to join? icon_biggrin.gif
