Quick Scroll Prospects of PG medical courses for IMGs in Australia ? 02.11.07 (1 year ago) #1

Hi
There are so many PG medical courses (Diplomas/Masters by Reasearch/Coursework and many more) offered by many Australian universities, for example Masters of Medicine, Women's health , Emergency Medicine, Child Health etc.
I wish to know the prospects of those courses in Australia for OTDs.
We can apply for PR after one year of studying full time in Australia . What are the job opportunities apart from that?
I hope you all understand my haphazard questions and specially the senior members or anyone please guide us.
Regards

there are few easy courses that can be done in Australia

one of them is diploma in child health run by children' s hospital at westmead.

The criteria for being awarded DCH are multi-faceted and include the following:

Junior Medical Staff at CHW are required to complete their employment contract.
Minimum attendance at 60% of lectures (this requirement must be met in order to be eligible to sit the exam)
Successful completion of both the oral and written components of the DCH examination
Six months experience in clinical paediatric medicine or its equivalent. This is calculated at 25% of any time spent in Emergency Departments (where paediatric patients are treated regularly), General Practice, Obstetric & Gynaecology terms. Community or general practice Paediatrics may be considered as experience. GP registrars who have done or are doing a three month paediatric term concurrently with the course are also accepted into the course. (see attached information in application form).
Satisfactory completion of other course requirements including community visits, the end of year examination and a case report.
Candidates may be accepted into the DCH course and sit for the examination before completion of the required duration of paediatric experience. However the DCH will only be awarded after completing six months Paediatrics (or its equivalent) subsequent to the examination

another one is diploma in child health offered by women's and children's hospital at south asutralia(adelaide)

Enrolment Enquiries
an MBBS or equivalent, registrable in South Australia
six months clinical practice in an Australian Paediatric Teaching Hospital, or experience of equivalent status

Course Description
The Diploma in Child Health is designed for MBBS graduates or those with an equivalent medical qualification who seek further training in Paediatrics and Child Health. The course will:

enable early postgraduate studies in Paediatrics and Child Health
be of particular benefit for those employed as Trainee Medical Officers in Paediatric Teaching Hospitals and in General Practice Training Programs or equivalent
provide preliminary preparation for those who are proceeding to further professional studies leading to a specialist qualification in one of the Royal Colleges.
Medical practitioners in a wide range of practice/disciplines may also find the course beneficial and consideration will be given to all applicants who can demonstrate the equivalent of six months of clinical experience in a Paediatric Training Hospital. The course will incorporate:

a two-hourly seminar program, held Wednesday evenings (6.00pm-8.00pm), from March until September. A minimum 75% attendance at the seminar program is expected; (not applicable to Distance package).
an option for Distance participation within Australia
one detailed research project proposal combining Community and Research data
a written examination on completion of the course year.
documentation and formative assessment of clinical experience and skills in Child Health. For candidates utilising clinical practice in a Paediatric Teaching Hospital, such documentation and assessment will be required from nominated supervisors. Details of alternative experience should be forwarded to the course co-ordinator for consideration. A candidate’s requisite experience (either six months of clinical work in a Paediatric Teaching Hospital or its equivalent) can be gained prior to or during the year of the course.

i dont know what all courses are offered in Australia , but i can tell you that orthopaedics and radiodiagnosis are two of the specialities which are in very very high demand in aus. so it is very difficult for OTDs to get into orthopaedics or radio training programme.
i am telling u this because my husband is an othopaedician(MS,MRCS ,also has a couple of internatonal presentations and publications) and is working as a registrar in aus for past 3 months...but to get his FRACS degree he has to start from step 1 here. he cleared the feb amc mcq exam and is looking forward to get into training programme after amc clinical and full registration in aus.
i am not discouraging u guys...try your luck icon_lol.gif
