Quick Scroll GP Stage 4 and MERSEY Deanery 04.12.07 (1 year ago) #1

Hi all,

I have two questions:

1) Does anyone know those who have given GP as their first choice will be informed about their outcome next week? On MTAS website it is stated that the timetable for GP recruitment process will be revised although there will no longer be new assessments.

2) The Director of Mersey Deanery informed the ST3 candidates at the assessment centre that he would only be able to recruit possibly 12 candidates according to financial constraints. This has not yet been confirmed by the Deaney but I wonder whether they can make substantial changes to the number of posts - currently the number of posts advertised (both on Mersey Deaney and MTAS websites) is 23.

Good luck to you all

Bad news re GP ST3 posts in Mersey Deanery:

Dr Mathie has now confirmed that the number of ST3 posts that we can recruit to in the Mersey Deanery for August 2007 is 9.

I cannot believe this that they have reduced the number of posts to 9 from 23! If I had known this I would have put Manchester as my first choice as they are recruiting over 60 posts!

I just don't know what to do now - is it true that I cannot change my GP preferences? I guess it is too late.

There will be national clearence yenal.so there is chance i guess as there may be excess posts in other deaneries. It's unfair to reduce posts like that..i agree.Hope for the best..and good luck

Hi

Thank you for your response.

Given that they reduced the no of ST3 posts in Mersey Deanery to 9, I am having second thoughts to reorder my choices. Currently, GP Mersey and Manchester my first 2 choices then Psychiatry .

I don't quite understand how the GP allocation works - do you think I still have a chance to get an offer in North Western Deaney as it is my second choice (65 posts available) although I wasn't shortlisted there?

I think Mersey Deanery breached the employment law by reducing the no of posts to 9 from 23 but I don't know it would be worthwhile challenging them legally at this stage.

Thanks and good luck

Yenal

For your information, this is the response I received regarding the reduction of number of posts in Mersey Deanery:

Thank you for your email. I know this must be a stressful time and it doesn't help when the data on the system changes.

If you ranked GP as your first choice and you were successful at your selection centre, the way that the general practice allocation works is to go through your choices and if you were not successful in your first choice deanery, they would try in your second choice deanery, etc. down through your choices. Therefore, you have a very good chance of securing a general practice programme in one of your chosen deaneries, if GP is your first choice and you are deemed an appointable candidate.

Go to the GP recruitment office website for more information about how the allocation for general practice programmes will work.:
