With early chronic pancreatitis, and even in some patients with advanced disease, ductal abnormalities demonstrated by ERCP may be minimal.
CT scans provide the most precise information about the size and configuration of the pancreas, information that is useful in decisions regarding possible pancreatic resection.

ERCP has a sensitivity of 95 percent but a specificity of only 85 percent. This is due to the difficulty in distinguishing between cancer and chronic pancreatitis. The study can be performed successfully in over 90 percent of patients and detects some tumors that are not visualized by CT.

ERCP for pancreatic malignancy and CT for pancreatitis

CSDT --> "ERCP—In patients with a typical clinical history and a pancreatic mass on CT, ERCP is unnecessary. In the absence of a mass, an ERCP is indicated. It is the most sensitive test (95%) for detecting pancreatic cancer, though specificity in differentiating between cancer and pancreatitis is low"

ERCP is definitely most appropriate for Ca Pancreas, the added advantage over CT is that you can also take biopsy of the suspicious areas to confirm your diagnosis.
