in a group of 100 children, the weight of a child is 15kg.the standard error is 1.5kg.which one of the foll is true:
a.95% of all children weigh between 12 & 18 kg
b.95% of all chidren weigh bet 13.5 & 16.5kg
c.99% of all children weigh bet 12 & 18 kg
d.99% of all children weigh bet 13.5 & 16.5 kg
ans given here is b,well but....how does a weight of a single child help am i missing something? icon_question.gif

theres a problem with the question......

standard ERROR is SD/sq root of n

SDeviation is what you are talking about if u say 95% fall within Mean +- 2 SD

check out the ques again

well the q in biostats buster is the same; on page 25 under standard error he doesnt mention the mean.its AIIMS MAY 2001.

yes appu, u r right, it shud be the mean weight for that sample (mistake in the question?). SE is ok, since it says the error due to this very sample in representating the true population of children. considering 2sd/se on both side of the mean, .... a should be the answer.
