Quick Scroll unsolved eye problem w/ pain PLEASE HELP 03.12.06 (2 years ago) #1

Hey everyone. I don't know where else to go online except a place like here where people know stuff about conditions of the eye, so maybe somebody can help!!

I have been in pain since April 2004. I just woke up with it one morning. The sensation I am feeling can only be described as orbital pain, as it hurts to move my left eye most of the time. It can be in any direction, but mostly upward or up-and-to-the-left movements hurt the most.

I have been to optometrists, opthalmologists, an ENT , retinal specialist, and a neurologist. Eye exams revealed some astigmatism in that eye, but correction would not make it go away completely. They then considered sinusitis and thus did a sinus CT which only revealed "minimal thickening in ethmoid sinuses" but this was apparently not alarming to my neurologist. Full brain and orbital MRI's turn up nothing, as did an MRA. EEG and bloodwork were also done. It was then concluded I must be suffering from an atypical chronic cluster headache, but the common treatments have not helped at all.

The only substances which seem to make the pain decrease: xanax or alcohol.

I shall point out that a pair of glasses which correct the astigmatism in my left eye will make the pain shift to my RIGHT EYE most of the time. I am guessing that maybe I need a new prescription which may address the right eye lense??

Another thing I will point out, and this is really strange to me, is that there is occasional "popping" sounds going on from what i imagine is within the sinuses somewhere, and also "popping" when i press on the tear duct which seems to release pressure.

If I press firmly against the tear duct with my eyes closed, and move the eye upward, it will make a small pop and release pressure, which seems to free up movement for a few minutes.

Finally, when I see myself in pictures and in the mirror from some angels, it seems as if my two eyes are not always properly in sync. I don't think it is enough for a person to notice unless I told him/her and he/she was really studying my face looking for it. But I see it, as well as feel a "pull" going on.

My left eyelid will get slightly puffy sometimes, but no changing colors or anything really noticeable.

What should I clue doctors in to look for? Is it possible something is either going on in the sinuses which go undetected by MRI/CT scans, or maybe there is an eye muscle problem?

PLEASE HELP!
