i have been issued multiple entry B1 visa for 6 months only. My visa ends on 25th oct. 2007 . i have my CS on 24th may.
Since i am short on VISA duration, will it be best for me to do observership or take step3 in this period ? which one will improve my chances for residency ?
How should i plan my future course of action ?
i am hard hit by less duration of VISA

If i had to choose between the two i'd prefer doing an observership before i apply. Step3 does offer some advantage during application screening but nothing in compared to what USCE does to enhance your CV.

Step3 u can always take later when u go for interviews but Observerships after ur interviews won't be of any help.

I found lot of links over there...but one of my seniors wrote e-mails to universities and he told me that he didn't get any reply..same thing happened to many of my seniors...One of my friend (senior) who got residency wrote :- "MPH route se jaana ya clerkship karna, observership aasani se nahin milti" these were the exact words..

Clerkship is very expensive ..not my cup of tea...It costs about 3-4lakhs.
Please help tinkerbell about observership..
(1)Requirements Of Observership? like what steps to be cleared ...or no steps required.
(2)Cost is no matter...I am ready to shell out money..
(3) Most important query:- How to apply for observership????
Please reply as soon as possible..

Warm Regards
dipsite.

dipsite you confuse me a bit! If you're ready to shell out money for observerships why not do it for Clerkships. I tell you clerkships are way better than a simple observership. They offer you hands on clinical experience which is just invaluable. Even an observership might cost you 1-2 lakh or more depending on the duration (costs to fly and stay in US).

And i still think that though MPH does offer you an additional degree but not so much of an advantage during residency search. My friends doing MPH at top universities like John Hopkins and Harvard tell me that a decent USCE makes your CV stronger than an MPH would. The reason is MPH is an allied course but it has very few things that 'directly' make you a better 'residency' candidate. Plus MPH would certainly cost you at least some extra money running in lakhs.

For observerships you have to become a email machine.. icon_rolleyes.gif Only a few mails are not enough, you gotta be persistent and keep mailing people. the problem most people face is that the slots they offer are usually months later when its advantage in match is zero. Since u have ample time before match you can easily plan it in advance. Apply for them during intern so that you can do it during intern or after that.

Months like Dec to April are the times when slots are competition for observerships is less. You can try at those times.

MPH has a fair share of advantages. Yet it is still inferior to a clerkship. Lets say MPH is like a non- clinical package deal.

Yes canadian Clinical Experience. Let it be Observership doesn't matter. There is a separate discussion on blog of DigiDoc which goes like "Does Clinical Experience of Other Countries Count"

Infact UKCE(UK Clinical Experience) makes a Difference.
