Well very nice and informative thread Aujla.Well i think the name bluetooth must have come from the symbol that they use.
Anyways it would be nice if could start a thread or here itself explain about other similar things like infrared and wifi.

Origin of the name and the logo
Bluetooth was named after a late tenth century king, Harald Bluetooth King of Denmark and Norway. He is known for his unification of previously warring tribes from Denmark (including Scania, present-day Sweden, where the Bluetooth technology was invented), and Norway. Bluetooth likewise was intended to unify different technologies, such as computers and mobile phones.
The name may have been inspired less by the historical Harald than the loose interpretation of him in The Long Ships by Frans Gunnar Bengtsson, a Swedish Viking-inspired novel.

Was just curious so just asked...
I saw someone talking on a cordless phone connected with bsnl landline...
they have been there since almost 2 decades now...
what is the technology involved???
dint want to start a new thread
and also pardon me for not searching
the whole forum that contains a thread (if any)
that can answer the question...
So decided to ask in this thread only...

hi kool.. no probs..
the technology involved with cordless phones is "Radio Frequency" or RF
its a pretty old technology...
its also used by some remote controls (most use IR)
RF is very prone to interference due to the crowded spectrum but it has a advantage over IR that is no boundation for line of sight..
so you can use a RF remote or phone while sitting in other room and it'll still work OK
