Quick Scroll Kaplan Sued Individuals Over Piracy of Test Preparation Mate 11.30.07 (7 months ago) #1

Since its inception, RxPG website has been very strict against sharing of illegal material in forums and we have been proactive in banning any individuals attempting to do so. The following piece of news should be an eye opener for those who attempt to do so under the false sense of security that perceived anonymity on internet. It also highlights the potentially dangerous grounds many of the USMLE forums are treading on.

Quote:
The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the principal trade association for the digital content and software industry, filed suit today on behalf of member company Kaplan, Inc., against three California residents and their business "USMLEPRO" for unauthorized copying and distribution of Kaplan test preparation materials.

The copyright infringement suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, accuses the defendants of illegally selling or assisting in the [no ads please] of Kaplan medical books and DVDs on websites and in [no ads please] auctions. The copyrighted materials are parts of test preparation courses offered by Kaplan to individuals preparing to take the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam. The defendants include Benny Y. Chang, Jason Hanson and Hamid Torshizy, as well as unnamed "Doe" defendants to be determined during the case.

It seems Kaplan is getting serious about piracy. We can expect more such actions in places like India and Pakistan in near future where this piracy is rampant. I advice all members to take care while posting stuff in forums.

Although we keep on editing all the clear violators of TOS, its the common sense of the members while posting that will help them the most.
