Quick Scroll Analysis: Misconceptions about MBA /MHA ...... 12.29.05 (2 years ago) #1

Hi

I went thru lot of posts in the FAQ for MBA in this forum.
And i think there r some points which need to be cleared out.

1) U do not necessarily have to give up ur pratice as a doctor if u opt for MHA .
The reason why i say this is - If u work for a medium size hospital , u can continue ur practice and still work as a hospital administrator. Though the time u would be able to devote to ur private practice would be less as compared to full time practice.
I have actually seen someone do this during my short work in a leading hospital i my city.

2) Pay scale - rs.50,000 is quite ambitious.
But one thing is certain, ur pay scale would be higher than what JRs earn.
And also scope for rapid promotion is there depending on ur work.
I can say 25k would be a more correct estimate for starters.

3) Ppl can go for correspondence courses while preparing for PG.
I am currently doing the same thing and am half way thru the course.
Doing it from Symbi, Pune.
Logic - i might not want to work as a hospital administrator, but when i apply for a job in any big hospital after my PG, a degree in Hospital Administration is surely gonna increase the chances of my getting an interview call and also getting the job.

4) Decide - MBA or MHA
it is 2 different things.
a) If u r looking to completely step out of medical profession than MBA is the course for u.
b) If u r looking to get into management and still be able to pratice a bit, then MHA is the course for u.

I hope this helps...and if i can be of any help to anyone who is interested in these courses, then let me know.

Also - TAKE A LOOK AT PGD IN MEDICAL LAWS AND ETHICS.

Sorry,
forgot to add one more thing.

Some doctor left MS Ophthal to do MBA from ISB, Hyderabad.
Allegedly he got placed for 80lakhs/per annum with a Swedish Pharma Company.

Now the pay is not confirmed, but this is what i have heard in various circles.
BUT - even half of 80lakhs sounds very attractive deal.
