I am not an expert but here they're my 2 cents:
1. you can Register for any state and take the exam anywhere. I don't no about NY but Connecticut for sure don't need any residency to aply: is the most used state by IMG's.
2. there you are on your one: you can Register first and modify your status later or wait until have results. I don,t no which is best (I am pretty much in the same shoes!) the risks are: Register late with "full house" you may lose some deals, Register early with "2 pears" again some might not consider you early in the game. as far as I've heard the programs diretors start to look over the applications in middle November so a safe bet will be Register early and modify status. again I'm not an expert just my bet!
Good luck!
BTW what sources do you use for study?

hey bogdan...thanx again 4 answerin many of my queries...
well i've just managed kaplan step3 study material.....havent yet been thro em.but it seems ok....
i'ld also suggest goin thro 1st aid or crush b4 the D-day!!!
for ccs i believe USMLE cd-rom+ UW should be sufficient...
i guess, goin thro limited study material twice is better than scanning a whole lotta books wtout being able to assimilate the stuff in any of em
......this is my personal opinion!!!!

"Young Jedai" speak no more! doubt not...truth is in your mouth!
In other words I think the same as you. is better to concentrate on high yield material and master it and after that lots of practice with Q (UW, Qbook, Qbank, the more the better) and CCS. also we have to learn how to work the software.
best of luck

My dear friend.. what sort of questions are you posting here in the forums!!!!

1st lets get thro the process called as USMLE & then think abt everything else....

Rest assured, you'll be paid much better during ur residency & during ur practice in USA than in any other country...

& trust me on this..if you choose to live in a Hilton & drink beer like a fish & smoke like a chimney... then even $20000 a month will be less!!

So, ur ques... cost of living & food is a very tuff ques to answer.... hope you understand that....

Still for a conservative person... the salary which these guyz provide is sufficient... this is wat i've heard....
