hi blue mars and BGM,
when i was using windows2000, i changed the background of various folders with pics and also the colour of the names of the folders and subfolders.
Later couple of months back, my service engineer installed xp and took out windows2000.
Now i want to remove the background pics and bring it back to normal but i'm not able to find the appropriate options(customize folder settings) to do it.

From the query i am getting an idea that your folders are currently looking like this.
What you want is to make the folders look like this,
Am i Right?
To do so,
Click on the "My Computer" icon
Got to the place where you want to change the folder looks. eg: F Drive
At the top Right of the screen you will see a heading named "View", Click on it.
A drop down menu will appear
Select "Tiles" or "Icons" and Click.
You can switch back to the old view by clicking "Thumbnails" in the same menu.
If you want to change the icon of the folder,
see this thread,

You do not have an option in WinXP to change the folders background .
but, there are two ways of doing this.
1)Windowpaper XP : It is perfect for your needs…. Free.... easy to use..
| Code: |
2)Changing Desktop.ini file: I can give you the code but, it will change only background not text…
I would suggest you to try the windowpaper first..
and let us know the results...

Thanks for the screenshots, its a lot informative than words.
As Blue said, Windows XP doesnt have any inbuilt options to change the folder background.
I have a few doubts,
Did your service engineer Upgrade your Windows 2000 to Windows XP or
Did he format Windows 2000 Drive and replace it with XP?
Those changes seem to be made via some software you installed in Windows 2000,
Was the software named "Icon Tweaker" installed in your PC?
Those icons actually belong to the "orb icon" icon set of Icon Tweaker.
If the software is still installed in your PC, uninstalling it and Rebooting the PC will restore the default icons.
If the software is not there, it would have been partially removed while you upgraded your PC.
So in such situations "Windowpaper XP" (mentioned in the last post) will be helpful.

thanks BlueMars and Bgm!!!
yes BGM, u r correct its Icon tweaker, orb icon set only. But i didn't have icon tweaker that time. Only now, some few weeks back, i had installed after going through ur post in techcentral. Actually my consideration wasn't that. only the picture (that firefox pic) in the background.
I'm not sure what the service engineer did as that time i was in trichur for coaching. I didn't also bother to check after i came bcos only time i use comp is in night for visiting rxpg.
Anyway, thanks will check out ur suggestions.
