IMGs are deprived from participating in the first iteration of the CaRMS (Canadian Matching System). This is a serious barrier for IMGs to fill the available residency positions especially the good ones.

Foreign MDs have been studied under quite different systems from what is going on in Canada . The suggestions for a better chance in getting residency are:

A) Improve language skills either English or French.

B) Have some researches and publish paper. Publishing paper is a hard job.

C) Have good reference letters, preferably from someone known in Europe or North America.

These are the advantages which MDs from Canada
already have. The scores in the EE and QEs are counted less than these factors.

hello
what i have understood so far is thats its pretty tough to get selected in carms 2nd match. in 2006 out of 1200 people only 200 got selected.
they prefer people who have mccqe 1 as well.
i plan to appear in steps as well to be on the safe side
good luck
