Hi guys
Thanx for this interesting comprehensive account on the current residency situation in USA

Really it is frustrating!!
I've graduated 3 years ago.. I've finished the full MRCP (UK) & was planning to sit for USMLEs during the current year.
But if that was the situation then most probably i'll change my mind.

so what do u advice me ? especially u AshB & dipsite
shall I proceed with that? or better to go somewhere else?

Another important question: I want to do cardiology. I've heard about non-standard training offered by some universities in US. U can get 1-2 years of unpaid training an a certificate without passing through residency. so please can u get for me more informations about that?

Thank u again

Well, to summarize for forum members a number of factors count for Interview calls.

(1) Scores.
(2) USCE :- Duration as well as type.
(3) US Research :- Publications as well as type of Research (Epidemiological or Clinical).
(4) Letter of Recommendation :- Issuing faculty as well as content.
(5) Years of Graduation.
(6) Contacts (It should come on Number 1)
(7) Applying on September 1st.
(8) www[dot]shaadi[dot]com or Visa status.

Then there are so called filters like USCE, Attempt in any STEP, blah !! blah !! blah!!

To summarize what factors play Important role after Interviews..

(1) Interview Performance (most important factor).
(2) USCE, Scores, Research.
(3) Contacts (in some cases).
(4) Visa status (very Important factor).

I think I've covered everything. Please make necessary editions and/or additions if required.
