HIGH COURT can try any offence and pass any sentence.
SESSIONS COURT can try only those offences which hav been committed to it by a magistrate.can pass any sentence ,but death sentence must be confirmed by high court.

JUDICIAL MAGISTRATE CANNOT PASS DEATH SENTENCE.
CHIEF JM CAN PASS A SENTENCE OF IMPRISONMENT UPTO 7 YRS& FINE WITHOUT LIMIT.
FIRST CLASS JM .......3 YRS IMPRISONMENT ,FINE UPTO RS 5,000/
SECOND CLASS JM........1 YR IMPRISONMENT,FINE UPTO RS 1000/-

Sentence of Death can be passed by a District and Sessions Judge, but it has to be CONFIRMED by the High court, before it can be executed.

High court can of course pass a death sentence and it need not be confirmed by a higher court.

DEATH SENTENCE CAN BE PASSED BY SESSION COURT BUT IT HAS TO BE CONFERMED BY HIGH COURT. THRERE FOR ANSWER IS SESSION COURT.
