Can anyone tell me if Medical Defence Union membership ( or membership of any defense organisation) is necessary in order to get through the long list process (Stage 1) GPVTS ?

I think they request for it. Best thing to do is get a membership for a 6 month hospital job ( should cost around £70). You can extend it once you got the job. Also when working as a GP registrar, you get reimbersed the money back ( for MDU cover as registrar.)
