USG is the investigation of choice to diagnose cholecystitis (95%) cases are diagnosed this way........ source sabiston 17th ed...... hida is only for cases like acalculous cholecystitis.......though it is 100% sensitive it is not done as an inv. of choice

hi... U/S is the investigation of choice because the signs of acute chole on u/s are 1)thickened was of the GB, 2) gallstanes, 3)pericholecystitic fluid and there are 2 more however if the u/s is normal or the GB is contracted and you still feel that it is an acute cholecystitis then you proceed to HIDA which will then give you a definite diagnosis

i jus hate these kind of questions and AIIMS ,all india ask a lot of these.!!final answer is what the committee forming the question paper thinks the inv of choice is..especially what is routinely done in AIIMS ..
