4 Hemodialysis with low potassium dialysate *****

Actually also hemodialysis is also used in the patients with renal failure BUT i haven't read about low potassium dialysate. I think they use plain hemo- or peritoneal dialysis.
What was the answer given in the book?

But that is wrong!
If you read Harrison's Internal Medicine, the Ca-gluconate is the first choice treatment of hyperkaliemia!
Probably that was error.

administration of calcium gluconate IV is correct answer.
All are treatment of Hyperkalemia, But except ca+ all lower K, ca+ act as antagonist to low K.

You are right!
Ca reduces K effects to cell membranes, not lowers K.
I didn`t pay enough attention. icon_rolleyes.gif

In hyperkalemia, calcium gluconate may aid in antagonizing the cardiac toxicity provided the patient is not receiving digitalis therapy.

2 Administration of Glucose, Insulin and sodium bicarbonate IV
