Quick Scroll very good question 03.19.08 (4 months ago) #6

hi vinblastine,

this question haunted me too very long & i asked so many people about it...but actually its ur mindset only...whatever u take finally,u hav to carry it life-long,that`s the crux...

so better analyse ur personality first & whether u want to study more or settle after PG & whether u hav a medical family background...u will get ur answers

Anaesthesia is a very emerging branch with fast bucks,no investment,no super-specialisation,even options to go abroad later..only thing is u need to hav good rappo with ur colleagues & surgeons..this too is being overcome by inclusion of CRITICAL CARE ....now anaesthesiologist is head of MICU,SICU,ICCU,PICU,NICU etc.

Ophthal needs good private setup which involves expending big bucks on various machines & now even Govt. is doing free IOL implants

Surgery is good, only thing u hav to go for super-sp. ,be it DNB or MCh or even any lap diplomas..

i hav taken Anaesthesia & i feel satisfied
hope i hav tried something to help u out....ALL D BEST

Quick Scroll reply 03.21.08 (4 months ago) #8

hi vinblastine,
of course every field & course varies with the college,so does Anaesthesia ...u r always expected to do PG from a good college,
that is natural i mean, common sense..& any MD is always given more weightage than diploma, irrespective of college.
and after MD/MS u can directly write DNB -Part II ,clear it,and then u become MD,DNB ...nothing else required..so try to always go for Masters(MD/MS) unless u r damn crazy abt a particular branch.

Apart from leading institutes like AIIMS ,PGI,KEM etc ,other colleges might not impart so much depth & details of CRITICAL CARE & PAIN MGMT.....u hav to do PDCC(Post-doctoral certif couse) in these to update & specialise urself....since these concepts r new in INDIA so these r at nascent stages ... might take few more years to mature
There r many hospitals--pvt & govt giving training on these...For now just think first abt taking MD n finishing off properly...
Other things u can think later
