A 26YEAR OLD MULIGRAVIDA DECIDES ON A HOME DELIVERY.
IMMEDIATELY AFTER DELIVERY OF A 4.2 Kg. BABY,THE PATIENT BLED MASSIVDELY.
SHE IS BROUGHT TO NEREST HEALTH CENTRE IN SHOCK.
AFTER 3 UNITS OF BLOOD TRANSFUSION,THE PATIENT"S B.P. REURNED TO SUBSTANTIAL LEVEL.
THE MOST COMMON CAUSE OF THIS BLEEDING IS:
1.CERVICAL LACERATION.
2.HAEMOPHILIA.
3.DIC.
4.ATONICITY OF THE UTERUS.
5.RETAINED PLACENTAL TISSUE.
MY ANSWER IS [3] ,
BUT THE ANSWER GIVEN IS [4].
SO,WHAT SHOULD BE THE ANSWER ,MY FRIENDS icon_question.gif

delivery of a large fetus can be a cause of atonicity of uterus causing post partum haemorrhage , as is the case in this patient (baby weight 4.2 kg).
so, i think the answer is option 4).

note: atonic uterus is the most common cause of PPH.

1. The most common cause of post partum hemorrhage ( PPH ) is utrine atony 50 %

2. The second most common cause of PPH is Genital Laceration 20 %

3. The third most common cause of PPH is Retained Placenta 10 %
